“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.” (2 Cor. 8:9) Notice how we become rich. It is not through our giving, but through His poverty. If financial blessing occurs through my giving than why did Jesus become poor. If this is the case then what will keep God’s people giving and supporting the work of the Lord? His love will motivate us if we will allow it too. (2 Cor. 5:14)
This is one reason it is so important for the believer to understand who they have become in Christ. You are one spirit with Him; a partaker of His divine nature. (1 Cor. 6:17; 2 Peter 1:4) He is the ultimate Giver and you are in Him. (John 3:16; Rom. 8:32) Talk about motivation to give!
