“Are You So Earthly Minded That You Are No Heavenly Good?”
Most people are familiar with the phrase, ” you are so heavenly minded that you are no earthly good.” The reality is that far to many are so earthly minded that they are no heavenly good. In other words, people often become so focused on their temporal earthly existence, which the Bible calls a vapor, that they fail to take into consideration eternity, and the big picture. (see James 4:14, Psalms 90:4; Psalms 144:4) The apostle Paul said that he had a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is FAR better than staying here. (see Philippines 1:23 emphasis mine)
The Greek word for “desire,” in that verse, is the same word used for “lust(s)” in other verses. Wow!
It is living for eternity which empowers effectiveness in the temporal. (see 2 Corinthians 4:18; 1 Corinthians 15:19) Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as you know that your labour is NOT in vain in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:58 emphasis mine) (see also Philippines 3:17-21)
