True Riches

Reminder: Ladies Coffee Sat. 21st 10:00 am at the Coffee Pot. Maybe, we’ll go somewhere else next time. I am open for suggestions!

I remember watching a reality show this past summer and there was a man on it who grew-up with lavish wealth. He was addicted to drugs and was seeking help. (I know that scandal and shock sells on today’s programs, but this guy forever impacted me because of his underlying cry for help!)

I was in a hotel and I flipped on the TV to this young man who was angrily bossing people around. I carefully studied him. Sadly, he was constantly berating a tired and stressed woman in his rehab facility. He made insulting remarks about her make-up, plastic surgeries, clothing, anorexia, etc. He was a snob to the others and to the camera men, as well. Everything about him screamed “spoiled!” (I thought to myself…nobody can be that cruel without an underlying cause.)

Then they told his story. He was only loved by his affluent grandfather who passed away when he was still young. His parents were too busy for him. (Probably addicts themselves.) He had money and power, yet he lacked the stability of…love!

(In my mind I could picture his home.) I am sure it is a beautiful prison. Fences surrounding a large estate would serve to keep him “out of reach” and lonely as he entertained other people of his socioeconomic standing. Models and actors/actresses would visit–they would be there for the money and certain “benefits” that accompany it. (Many would pledge their friendship and love, but if the wealth left–they would too!) He wouldn’t know about a simple, hard-working life because he would never be faced with it. (Outside of a miracle, he will probably have children who grow-up to act just like him…or worse.)

(I thought to myself…I would love to have a few minutes alone with that guy!) No…not to “set him straight,” but to help him see that God has a great plan for his life! He could help so many less fortunate people! I would want him to know that God loves him and I would encourage him to allow the Lord to Save and Love him! Christ can fill the void he has.

In conclusion, I think the money world can be the cruelest, coldest habitation. I would never want financial success to change me–that is why I hope to, someday, give much of it away! True riches are found in Christ!!
